Hazrein Weyr is in need of help!

In a time centuries after the last Thread was supposed to fall, dragon numbers dwindled from well over two thousand to barely pushing two hundred. Those who remained settled into the decaying ruins of High Reaches, Ista, and Southern Weyrs; though some in the South with mature dragons settled in small hut-like forest weyrs. Their original purpose gone, the dragons were used to cart supplies quickly between the two continents, as well as ferrying people (usually those of rank) about. Many elder riders soon began to dream of the past, when dragonmen and their beasts flamed the dreaded menace from the skies of Pern.

A strange draconic disease set in eight Turns before present time, killing countless other dragons. In the midst of this illness, a golden dragon of High Reaches, Ireanth of Rashana, rose to mate. The previous Weyrwoman had died, her dragon succumbed to the deadly disease, so Rashana was made the new Weyrwoman. Barely a sevenday later, Sayanith of Ista rose as well. Both clutches hatched on the same day, bringing a startling new surprise to the northern Weyrs. Four dragons, so strange in coloration that they were nearly ousted from the Northern continent, were borne of the clutches, a result of their dams' weakened immune systems. Drayth, an unusually pale silvery-bronze soon dubbed the silver dragon, hatched alongside a pale greeny-teal female at High Reaches. From the Istan clutch sprang a near-black brown dragon and a coppery-gold female named Arailath. Ashamed of these new dragons, the Northerners kept them a secret from the South, in the hopes that these 'mistakes' were the only ones of their kind.

They soon discovered that they were wrong. Another queen of High Reaches, Keaveroth, rose to mate, and silver Drayth soon proved himself worthy to the golden beauty. Unsure whether or not this dragon would produce a clutch, the dragons of High Reaches soon learned that he could when a twenty-three egg clutch was laid upon the Sands. Two more dragons, another green-teal aurora and a coppery-gold garnet, were hatched of the clutch. Soon afterward, Arailath of Ista rose and clutched, producing more silver, obsidian, and aurora dragons. Still in denial, the Weyrleaders of the North kept these new colors hidden from the South. Little did they know that at the same time that Keaveroth and Arailath clutched in the North, a queen in the South clutched, producing five of the strange dragons; one of each new color, plus an extra silver. Silvers Aseruith and Iankellith are the only new-colored dragons remaining of that clutch, and both are eager to continue their lines.

The first Threadfall of the new Pass caused mass devastation to the people of Pern. The scant two hundred fifty dragons were barely enough to ensure the survival of every Hold on Pern, and the queens and garnets of Pern are struggling to bring the dragon population back up. Dare you enter this world of heartache and constant danger? Dare you come to the new Hazrein Weyr's aid?

Hazrein is in dire need of members and new candidates for the next Hatching! The young golden Alaeith hasn't risen to mate just yet, but that will come on July 15th! That means the clutch will be soon, as will the Hatching! Come and aid our beloved Hazrein! Currently there is a recruiting contest, and the first and second place winners will recieve a plot-driven (and egg-heavy) garnet dragon and young aurora dragon, respectively.

We are currently still in need of some ranking characters, though candidates are greatly appreciated as well! Hope to see you all there!

Set in an alternate 9th Pass, Atricis Weyr is a Semi-canon weyr.
Still being a young weyr, Atricis is in need for some bronze and other adult dragons.
Our Summers are warm but not hot, while as Autumn and Spring are chilly. In the Winter it is freezing and snow is common.

Our previous Weyrwoman has died as the result of a plague that has hit the Weyr, and a new one has been confirmed with the rising of Golden Shyamath. A clutch will appear on the Hatching Grounds fairly soon, so we're in need of candidates for the upcoming Hatching!

WEYR BEHIND!

When Lessa jumped back in time 400 turns, she rallied five of the Pernese Weyrs and invited them to the future, where they would help save Pern from their nemesis, the silvery spore called Thread. The Weyrs – Fort, Igen, Ista, High Reaches and Telgar – would follow her, and establish their Weyrs in the Ninth Pass, to be forever remembered as Pern’s saviors.

But one Weyr was left behind, one Weyr was forced to remain in the dark, to wait patiently until the Long Interval ended and the new pass began. When the Weyrleaders met with Lessa to decide their fait, only the Benden Weyrleader was invited to the meetings. Only he understands why the Riders up and vanished; only he understands it was a necessary thing for them to leave.

Not even the Benden Weyrwoman knows what happened to the other Weyrs, and the entirety of Pern is reeling with the realization that only Benden Weyr will be left to save the planet when the Red Star returns again. Outrage, disbelief, terror and confusion are felt all over the planet, and Holder and Crafter alike are resentful of the Weyrs that they had once tithed vigorously to. Relationships all over the planet have been severed and each Hold and Hall now looks to Benden for guidance, reassurance and explanations.

Will the frazzled Benden Weyrleaders be able to handle the pressure, and how will Pern adjust to life with only one Weyr? Now that the Interval has begun, what is in store for Pern as they await the return of the Red Star?

All these questions and more remain to be answered at Weyr Behind!

Once more we can rise from the ashes...

It has been over two Turns since the plague hit the Northern Continent. Many died, many were victims. The few left were force to take the weigh of those who had fallen. Thread still fell, it did not wait for the plague to subside. It did not care and in it's silver fall many more died. I watched on as my Weyr began to crumble, I watched as cries for help were left unanswered.

“Quarantine! We must quarantine the North!” Was what many Weyrleaders and Lord Holders demanded. I did not agree, nor at the time did my weyr mate who was Weyrleader of Crescent. The Master crafters stood behind every word the Riders said, and in the end there was a quarantine. It was insane! Most of the Weyrs could not fly Fall with a full wing! We needed to band together, but no. They were scared, as scared as I was. The total of death each day was stacking, it was traumatizing. The Queens we had were falling ill, many jumped between with or without their Rider. The ones left behind rose only to lay lifeless clutches. Madness, pain, suffering, and still we could do nothing but try. In a sea of my own tears I watched as the newer colors fell, they were hit harder and quicker.

Something needed to be done! It was clear the quarantine wasn't working! I rounded up my last surviving Wing Leaders, and Queenriders. I told them my plan, it was madness itself. But what did we have left to lose? I told them to spread the word that we were going to leave the North. Away from the plague, and hope that we could survive. That those left would not be lost. As the days went by till the date of when we would leave, many came willing to try anything. Anything at all. The day we left, I still felt tears fall down my cheeks. Many of my Riders could not come and I felt, some how I felt, that this was the last time I would see them. We left, left with heavy and broken hearts.

West, the one land that was never looked upon for settlement. We found a canyon perfect for building a new Weyr. A new life. And so we did. We survived the plague! Our young Queen is now close to age where she shall rise. As late Crescent's Weyrwoman and Solace's Weyrsteward, I feel that we will once more rise from the ashes anew! The Weyr is open to any who wish to settle here. The North has been ravaged, but still holds life. The other Weyrs are struggling to rebuild their numbers. But the Queens are rising, and one has even laid a clutch that has hatched!

Pern will survive, and so will the life on it.

a dragonriders of pern rpg

http://www.mavrosweyr.proboards.com

At Mavros Weyr, your character can be a dragonrider or a craftsman, a scholar or a child. Mavros is a relaxed canon weyr-hold based on the classic Dragonriders of Pern series by Anne McCaffrey. Located around a volcanic caldera, the settlement is composed of banished dragonriders and the people they fight to protect from the alien menace called Thread. When you create a character at Mavros, you enter a world where the fate of an island balances on a knife's edge, and where flying on dragon wings is not an idle dream, but a deadly necessity.

We departed from Tidewalk Hold on the first day of the eighth month. It was high summer, and the seas were calm. The conflict between myself and Senior Weyrwoman Kalena had escalated, and violence between our factions had broken out. In the interest of stopping further bloodshed it was determined that the more junior queen and her supporters should quit the weyr for good...

That meant Asurath and I. With a contingent of thirty-three riders and twenty weyrlings, as well as one hundred eight-six assorted holders and weyrfolk, we chose to form a new weyrhold on one of the lower Western Ring Islands rather than disperse amongst the other weyrs. Mavros was the one we chose.

So, while the weyrfolk and other holders were brought to Mavros on dragonback one by one, along with the supplies we had managed to accumulate, the fisherfolk set sail with their families and a number of riders accompanying them.

Already settled into the natural caves of Mavros Bay, we awaited their arrival with impatience. Candidate Master S’ten, thinking to give the weyrlings flight practice, decided to take them out to meet the fleet halfway. They departed, and the rest of us waited, even as the weather became stormy, and lightning struck the highest rock on Mavros. Then, suddenly, blue Nesporth blinked from between, bearing his severely injured rider and one desperate message which made all our blood run cold.

Thread.

No one had anticipated the early onset of the 10th pass.

Updates!

-- Forty-six eggs. That's an awful lot for a Weyr still trying to secure a footing after hundreds of Turns of vacancy. Will Fort Weyr be able to support forty-six dragonets and forty-six weyrlings? Will they even be able to find enough candidates, given their own lower caverns are slim pickin's? (It's a great time to create a candidate character and join in on the game's first Hatching set for March!)

-- Liberated by the efforts of some very unlikely heroes - a female Starsmith apprentice, a fellis-addict Healer, a kitchen girl, and the Lord's little sister - Fort Hold survived a siege by renegades. Now it's time to get the Hold back in order and start finalizing some details of the confirmation of the new Lord.

-- After a long delay, Harper Hall finally announced their new Masterharper. Some laud the appointment as a return to tradition, while others remark that his sexism is sure to be a step backward for a Hall with a long-standing liberal attitude. Will women still be accepted in the Hall? And what will happen to all the female apprentices and journeymen that already call themselves Harpers?

Updates!

-- Some remark, with understandable concern, that the young queen Sierryth may have overdone it a bit with her eggs. They were clutched three weeks early, for starters, and she laid forty-six of them - including a queen egg. Although all seem healthy and the gold is quite proud of them, the problem is really two-fold. First, what if there's something wrong with the eggs? Second, where in the world is Fort going to find candidates for that many eggs?!

-- Speaking of candidates... characters are now being accepted as candidates to Impress at a Hatching in March!

-- Fort Hold is under siege. Was under siege? It's hard to say, right now! After being attacked and besieged by a group of renegades lead by one of Fax's sons - yes, that Fax - the Hold is currently in a state of chaos. It seems that a group of holders (and one of the renegades themselves?) is in the midst of a rescue effort. Poison, adventure, murder, danger - it has all the makings of a great epic tale. Provided the heroes don't wind up getting themselves killed for their efforts.

What if Lessa failed?

What if Pern had no heroes from the past?

Join us at Shards of Pern, where we explore the possibility that Lessa failed in her attempt to bring forward the Oldtimers, leaving Benden Weyr with the burden of repopulating all of dragonkind at the beginning of the Ninth Pass. The action is set in the Fort Region, with Fort Weyr having been reopened in recent months by a posting of 200 dragonriders.

We are a mostly-canon Weyr. We don't support a wide rainbow of colors - just the basic five - and we have tried to stay true to the early books in the series, before Pern went too far afield and lost what made it gritty and interesting! Firelizards will be part of the story; whers will not. Girls will Impress to green dragons, but never to blues or browns. Rather than stretch the boundaries of canon, we've opted to explore the social, political, and adventurous aspects within Pern.

Updates!

-- Fort Weyr flies thread for the first time (post ongoing). With no decisive leadership yet - with no queen having yet risen over Fort's skies to confirm a Weyrleader - it's rough-going, and the Wings have taken heavy losses. Their numbers already dwindling, some begin to question whether or not they can continue to fight with so short a supply of healthy dragons.

-- There are still a few open positions for bronzeriders, especially those interested in being Wingleaders and the Weyrleader - eventually. If one of Fort's two queens manages to rise one of these days.

-- Gold Sierryth's maiden Flight - though occurring over Benden Weyr - will bring the first clutch of eggs to Fort's sands in centuries. Be one of the candidates that will make history on those sands! Particularly sought are male candidates - and the future female greenriders that will redefine dragonriding during a Pass that already puts Pern on the brink of destruction. The clutching starts on February 6th, and we'll be accepting candidates until the Hatching begins in March!

-- Fort Hold is under siege. As if it weren't enough that Lord Groghe recently passed away and his reckless son is now the unlikely Lord presumptive, the Hold has been attacked by one of Fax's sons. The Heir has been imprisoned and the holders are under lock-and-guard while the renegades establish their possession. It's a great time to play a holder or crafter, as both heroes and villains are needed for this plot.

-- Harper Hall remains leaderless. Robinton died over eight months ago, and the bickering Masters can't decide on his replacement. But it looks like Ukrisc - a man marked as a misogynist and clearly not the sort of person anyone would have expected to become Masterharper - may be drawing enough votes to launch himself into the premier position. What will this mean for the usually female-friendly Crafthall?

-- Firelizards have recently been discovered on the Southern Continent, and a clutch was purchased for the Spring Gather at Fort Hold. There's still time to Impress one if you hurry to join!

-- Bronzeriders are in high demand right now. We have three adoptable bronze characters: J'star, V'men, and R'klin - the latter of whom rides Reoth, sire to the the clutch coming to Fort Weyr.

-- Female greenriders will Impress at the first Hatching. Come create a character to break tradition and ride green!

-- Gold Sierryth rose in her maiden Flight at Benden Weyr. The eggs have already been promised to help the fledgling Fort get on its feet, and the queen will clutch her eggs (around the end of January). This will be the game's first Hatching! A queen egg will be part of this Hatching, so come create a candidate character! The Hatching is scheduled for late February or early March, and there's time to create a candidate up until the first egg Hatches. :)
