An uncanon Mid-Advanced RP based on the Dragon Riders of Pern, by Anne McCaffrey
Activity: Brand new and still smells like it to!
What we have to offer: Exciting roleplay with an intricate plot, threats in every direction from Thread, Felines, even Bandits, a chance to play a star watcher in the floating satellites above Pern, and of course all the brand new colors. So come join us, and see what we have to offer!
They thought it was over... They thought that the red star had succesfully been diverted away from their world. And for nearly six hundred years, they were correct.
In that time, dragonriders became a dying breed, used only to relay food up to floating space stations monitering the stars and Pern, their numbers dwindling year by year until there were less than five hundred dragonriders in all, and only three queens.
Then, one day, a Queen in the South laid five eggs... Five eggs which, when Hatched, revealed five new colors to Pern... Five strange colors that looked like offshoots of the normals, five strange colors which swiftly grew and learned and took their place in the wings. They were named after the old, old words dug up, named after star signs. In that clutch a Queen had been born, named after the archer, a Sagittarius Queen who's hide appeared drenched with blood. But her birth was a warning...
Before the Sagittarius' first Flight, tragedy struck. One of the farthest space stations out from Pern was hit with something that tore the brains from the unbonded working the station, sending them into a killing frenzy and ending the lives of the rider's that had gone to support them with foodstuffs, no word reaching the Weyr for some time. Finally the old Gold went up, and discovered the carnage, the dead bodies floating outside, one that of a dragon that had attempted to get away, but had gone without saving breath, and lost it in the cold.
They discovered not only was the Red Star back, but with a vengeance. Their ancient enemy had somehow morphed, changed, became stronger, able to burrow into the very minds of the humans that remained unbonded and turn them into foes, stealing their nervous system and breaking it down if they could but touch their weak skinned prey. Only dragonriders and wher handlers were immune. Luckily, Pern would have a few years to prepare as the Red Star was on so slow a course that it would not fully reach their world for some time...
In that time, the old Queen fell, and the Sagittarius took her place, giving birth to several more new colors and completing the ring, fighting to regain their former glory.
But tragedy would come once more. The almost purely undefended North fell first, hold after hold demolished, leaving nothing but metal scraps, twisted remains, and desolation. Only the South remained now, its numbers being reduced quickly with each fall, though slowly the hatchlings grew and joined forces, helping to battle back the tides of fall. But the holders were in chaos... People began fleeing their homes, moving closer to the weyr that was their only salvation... A bandit Lord rose up, stalking the plains that lay in between many of the holds, savaging those that stood in his way. It was also found that, while anything that had been genetically changed by Kitti Ping and any of the first tranfers, had at least some resistance to Thread, whenever felines were attacked by it, they turned into mad, ravening beasts, hunting in packs more like wolves, and not stopping their attack until their heads were seperated from their bodies... It seemed like everything that could go wrong was going to... And no one was sure what the next step was...
"Such is our story" The young looking woman turns, revealing a face already scarred, three lines running from her hairline down to her chin, her stormcloud grey eyes focused on you as she grins and thumps the book down. "Are you prepared to join our fight?" The woman tosses her head and bares her teeth. "If you are, suit up... Its going to be a bumpy ride."
