Gold Sylfaeth's gift to Caufar proved once again that the Weyr's golds provide what's needed at all times, even in times of such unease as Pern is experiencing now. The pale champagne-gold Cevineth, newest daughter of Caufar, Impressed well to the Lady Miaran, a daughter of Ruatha and Nabol, and niece of Western Barrier, further tying the aloof mountainous holding to the Weyr to which it tithes. How, though, will Miaran's sister Chrianna cope with her shadow-sibling's Impression to the much-coveted gold, and Chrianna's own eclipse within family and Weyr hierarchy? What difficulties does Miaran face, thrust into the limelight almost against her will?
Snowy Eventide's Weyrlings face their own problems - from the potential to hold over grudges from Candidacy days to the Blood rivalry of the new queenrider and one of the new greenriders, to the news that Pern's own MasterHealer has arrived at the Weyr, sent for by Weyrlingmaster Shiandra herself, though only rumour abounds as to why... Though, if one looks closely, Candidatemaster T'bin is more than a bit poleaxed by the news that his veritably large family is about to grow by still one more. And what of Junior Weyrwoman Anodelle, Shiandra's only child up until this point? Her mother's pregnancy serves as a reminder of what she chose to leave /between/, though it may well be what heals the rift between the mother-daughter pair.
As if Darskea's Lady Nuriel doesn't have enough to handle, with the possibility that she's miscarried her Hold's chance for an heir, there are strange sails on the horizon, reports of products and people and yes, even those precious watercraft going missing, and it seems as though winter's respite has only produced new worries for Darksea, and probably for the Weyr as well. Ever eager to provide for itself, Darksea might have met its match in the organized raiders making their presence known in the dark waters the hold is named for, though they have to find a way to infiltrate the group first... Such a pity, isn't it, that Nuriel's brother Rieri has gone missing, presumed stupid, and the raiders appear to have that much more inside knowledge of the goings-on of the Hold territories...
Caufar's youngest mature queen, the elegant Rhaeath, appears to be growing proddier and more vibrant by the day, and word has it that her maiden flight is just around the corner. Will she take after her mother, Alorioth, and select her first mate from her clutch-siblings? What of the preferences of her half-sister, Sylfaeth, who can't seem to make up her mind? Of course, there's always that decision, not quite set in stone, that perhaps Caufar should open her Bloodlines a bit better, call for an open flight, and keep far from the Weyr's newest mother-to-be anyone with Blood ties too close...
Caufar welcomes the addition of Assistant Candidatemaster H'rolque to the ranks, and hopes that he has enough time to learn the ropes from T'bin before the Candidates really start pouring in for Rhaeath's clutch, as she's due to rise for the New Year...
How will you get involved in these tumultuous times at Caufar? Try for influence with Caufar's golds, see if you can slip in as a part of the multi-faceted newest Weyrling group, or perhaps trek out on your own, find your own niche on Pern that needs filling? After all, once 2009 hits, the raiders will organize themselves into a force to be contended with, Rhaeath will be in the air for a mate, and there will be lots and lots of dragon eggs....
