In a time centuries after the last Thread was supposed to fall, dragon numbers dwindled from well over two thousand to barely pushing two hundred. Those who remained settled into the decaying ruins of High Reaches, Ista, and Southern Weyrs; though some in the South with mature dragons settled in small hut-like forest weyrs. Their original purpose gone, the dragons were used to cart supplies quickly between the two continents, as well as ferrying people (usually those of rank) about. Many elder riders soon began to dream of the past, when dragonmen and their beasts flamed the dreaded menace from the skies of Pern.
A strange draconic disease set in eight Turns before present time, killing countless other dragons. In the midst of this illness, a golden dragon of High Reaches, Ireanth of Rashana, rose to mate. The previous Weyrwoman had died, her dragon succumbed to the deadly disease, so Rashana was made the new Weyrwoman. Barely a sevenday later, Sayanith of Ista rose as well. Both clutches hatched on the same day, bringing a startling new surprise to the northern Weyrs. Four dragons, so strange in coloration that they were nearly ousted from the Northern continent, were borne of the clutches, a result of their dams' weakened immune systems. Drayth, an unusually pale silvery-bronze soon dubbed the silver dragon, hatched alongside a pale greeny-teal female at High Reaches. From the Istan clutch sprang a near-black brown dragon and a coppery-gold female named Arailath. Ashamed of these new dragons, the Northerners kept them a secret from the South, in the hopes that these 'mistakes' were the only ones of their kind.
They soon discovered that they were wrong. Another queen of High Reaches, Keaveroth, rose to mate, and silver Drayth soon proved himself worthy to the golden beauty. Unsure whether or not this dragon would produce a clutch, the dragons of High Reaches soon learned that he could when a twenty-three egg clutch was laid upon the Sands. Two more dragons, another green-teal aurora and a coppery-gold garnet, were hatched of the clutch. Soon afterward, Arailath of Ista rose and clutched, producing more silver, obsidian, and aurora dragons. Still in denial, the Weyrleaders of the North kept these new colors hidden from the South. Little did they know that at the same time that Keaveroth and Arailath clutched in the North, a queen in the South clutched, producing five of the strange dragons; one of each new color, plus an extra silver. Silvers Aseruith and Iankellith are the only new-colored dragons remaining of that clutch, and both are eager to continue their lines.
The first Threadfall of the new Pass caused mass devastation to the people of Pern. The scant two hundred fifty dragons were barely enough to ensure the survival of every Hold on Pern, and the queens and garnets of Pern are struggling to bring the dragon population back up. Dare you enter this world of heartache and constant danger? Dare you come to the new Hazrein Weyr's aid?
Hazrein is in dire need of members and new candidates for the next Hatching! The young golden Alaeith hasn't risen to mate just yet, but that will come on July 15th! That means the clutch will be soon, as will the Hatching! Come and aid our beloved Hazrein! Currently there is a recruiting contest, and the first and second place winners will recieve a plot-driven (and egg-heavy) garnet dragon and young aurora dragon, respectively.
We are currently still in need of some ranking characters, though candidates are greatly appreciated as well! Hope to see you all there!
