CANON COLORS
Gold: The traditional leader of the dragons, Golds are among the largest, and certainly rarest, and for most of history were the only females capable of clutching - but unable to process firestone. They rise once or twice a year, with clutches larger prior to and during a Fall. All other dragons will obey a gold, with the exception of a black. A gold ranges in color from a pale, honey-wheat to a deep, almost brassy gold. They Impress to heterosexual/bisexual females only. They make awful search dragons. They produce large clutches with all colors with a higher chance at metallics.
Bronze: Traditionally the largest , and rarest, males of the Weyr, a bronze is the typical mate of the queen. Born to lead, a bronze is the dragon who can always last through a whole threadfall, and their flames are the longest and strongest of all. Bronzes show a wide variety of base colors from a dark golden-brown to a brighter copper, though they always seem to have a slightly greenish highlight. They impress to heterosexual/bisexual males only. They are poor search dragons, but tend to lead wings of searchers. They can sire clutches with all colors, though tend to produce few mutations (up to 1/4 of clutch).
Brown: These dragons are the workhorse of the Weyr. They wear many hats, and can serve as well on watch as leading a wing into battle. Famous for their stable personalities and even temperments, you can always rely on a brown in the thick of things. A Brown's color runs the span from a pale, creamy coffee to a near-black chocolate. They impress most commonly to all preferences of men, and rarely bisexual/homosexual woman. They make fair search dragons. They can sire clutches on any female, though tend to produce only normal chromatic colors and few mutations.
Blue: The most common male color, Blues are not able to last an entire Fall but are appreciated for their speed. Moreso, however, they are adored for being the most empathic of all dragons, and nearly every candidate of Pern is searched out by a blue. Blues range in color from a crisp sky blue to a dark sapphire, and always appear very pure of color. Blues will impress commonly to men of all preferences, and occasionally females of any preference. They make extraordinary search dragons. They can sire clutches on female blues, though tend to produce only normal chromatic colors and few mutations.
Green: By leaps and bounds, the majority of Pern's dragon population is green. Traditionally the smallest females, they are famous for their speed and agility, and if everyone else misses a clump of Thread, you can be sure a speedy and sleek green wouln't - even if they can't last a whole Fall. Greens rise three to four times a year, but never clutch. A Green can be every color from pale mint to a dark forest green, though usually have a slightly more earthy color unless they are preparing to rise. They impress to men and woman of any preference. They make excellent search dragons. They do not clutch.
ORIGINAL COLORS
Black: Appearing not unlike a melanistic queen, a Black dragon is always female and classified metallic, and are equal in size and strength to their golden sisters. Other dragons treat them as queens, and they behave equal to the task. However, Blacks are prone to be particularly tempermental and difficult to manage, even sinister and scheming at times. Their colors are usually a soft, velvet-black right up to a glossy jet, with some even showing the faintest of golden tints. They are rarer even than a Gold, though both can appear in the same clutch. They impress to heterosexual/bisexual females only. They are awful search dragons. They produce large clutches of all colors, with a higher chance at mutations and fewer metallics than a Gold. They can only ever produce 1 queen (gold or black) in a clutch.
Albino: Not to be mistaken for Ruth, an Albino is a colorless dragon, showing no hints of any other hue. Like a Terran albino, these white dragons tend to show hints of their inner colors, though instead of reds and pinks it is the oily green of ichor and silvery muscle. In size, they tend towards a moderate, brown-like size, and this mutation seems limited to the male gender. Open-hearted and social, they are known for thier amorous tendencies. They will not chase every Rising dragon, but are most likely to attempt to chase Queens than any other non-traditional color. They can sire clutches, and tend to produce more mutations (up to 3/4 of clutch), and are unusual in that they are the only dragon besides bronze to be able to produce all colors. They make fair search dragons.
Purple: These males are the smallest males in the Weyr, growing only as large as some smaller-average blues. They are very paternal, and will defend anything and everything they care about with a ferocity to make a Gold hesitate. They will even threaten another dragon. Thier colors range from pale lilac to deep violet. They Impress to males and females of any preference, though lean towards male. They make excellent search dragons. They can sire clutches on female blues, but do not sire metallics, though they can produce a higher ratio of mutations.
Blue (female): These females follow the sizes of greens, but the attitudes of blues. They are extremely talkitive and social, and want nothing more than to be able to Fly every day, with as many males as possible. They may clutch after thier maiden flight, though the clutches are small and without metallics (though a higher ratio of mutations), and they are not known for being very good parents. Their colors follow the same line as Blues, though they tend to be paler and more muted than their male counterparts. They will impress to either male or female, regardless of sexual preference, though lean towards female. They make fair search dragons.
Green (male): Jokingly, these rowdy lads are bronzes trapped in a green's skin, and loving every minute of it. Flamboyent, their hides are as bright as their personalities, and rarely can a male green be seen in anything less than a jovial mood. Gentle giants, these bronze-sized males surprisingly have the love for the petite ladies, rarely chasing a gold or black, at least not seriously. They impress to heterosexual or bisexual males only. They make poor search dragons. They can sire clutches on any female, but can not produce a gold or black.
